Watercolor Flowers and Distress Oxide Ink Background

Image
I have been trying to find a creative way to use Hero Arts Antique Hero Map Bold Prints Stamp and I also wanted to practice my watercoloring, so I created these cards. These cards feature Altenew Watercolors and a Distress Oxide Ink background.  I first heat embossed the floral image from Hero Arts As Sweet As Honey Stamp Set with Gold Embossing Powder onto watercolor paper cut to 4" by 5.25". I then stamped the image onto Masking Paper from Altenew and fussy cut the image using Tim Holtz Haberdashery 6" Scissors . I placed this image onto the watercolor paper where I heat embossed the image. I made the mask slightly larger then the card front so I could wrap the excess around the edges so it would not lift up with the water. I was able to use the same mask for both cards.  To ensure the background stamp would stamp where I wanted it to on the background, I placed Hero Arts Antique Hero Arts Bold Print Stamp into my MISTI and stamped the image onto a piece of MIS...

Watercolor Poinsettia with Nuvo Shimmer Powder

Image
I created these cards using a technique I featured not long ago which can be found with more detail HERE .  I first heat embossed Colorado Craft Company's   Big & Bold Slimline Poinsettia Stamp Set [left] and  Big & Bold Poinsettia Blessings Stamp Set [right] onto watercolor paper using Versamark Ink and Hero Arts Gold Embossing Powder . I then taped these panels down onto a hard surface with Spellbinders Best Ever Craft Tape . I used Catherine Wheel and Maroon Spark Nuvo Shimmer Powder to color the images. I then used the same shimmer powders to create a watercolor to spatter onto the background. For these cards, I used the same method as above but instead used Golden Sparkler and Ivory Willow Nuvo Shimmer Powder. I also added a bit of Green Parade Nuvo Shimmer Powder to the centers of the poinsettias. For the sentiments, I heat embossed sentiments using Christmas Day Embossing Powder from Brutus Monroe for the green and Christmas Eve Embossin...

Watercolor Large Floral Images Quickly

Image
These cards were made using Nuvo Shimmer Powders as watercolor. This technique allows for a lot of color to be put down quickly. The card on the left uses Cherry Bomb , Lilac Waterfall , and Falling Leaves ; the middle card uses Violet Brocade , Blue Blitz , and Jade Fountain ; the final card uses Lilac Waterfall, Violet Brocade, and Falling Leaves.    I first stamped Colorado Craft Company's Big & Bold Just Because Lilacs Stamp onto watercolor paper using Altenew's Obsidian Black Pigment Ink . I then clear heat embossed the image using WOW Embossing Powder Clear Gloss and taped the panels down onto cardboard with masking tape.  I put each color of the Nuvo Shimmer Powder down in the general area of where I wanted that color. To use this powder, I lightly tapped the bottom of bottle over the paper. Squeezing the bottle results in a large amount of pigment to come out. Only small amounts are needed for this technique.  I then lightly misted it with water using a...

Metallic Watercolor on Black Watercolor Paper

Image
To create these cards, I first stamped Simon Says Stamp's Cling Stamp Delicate Outline Flowers Stamp Set onto Black Watercolor Paper from Legion using Versamark Ink and Hero Art's Gold Embossing Powder . I taped down my card front to a hard surface. I like to just use the backing of the pad of watercolor paper. I painted this image using the Christmas Set from Iuile Watercolors . These metallic watercolors show up beautifully on dark colored paper. They have a metallic shine that is difficult to see in pictures. For these cards, I used Cobalt, Apple, and Lilac for the flowers and New Leaf for the leaves. Once the paper was dry, I cut down my card panel using A2 Precision Plates from Spellbinders . I also cut out a slightly larger panel from Sizzix Gold Surfacez Opulent Cardstock . Because most of the gold card stock would be covered up, I cut out CZ Design's Chunky Love You Wafer Die from the center and cut out the shadow die from vellum. I cut out additional pieces from...

Nuvo Shimmer Powder as Watercolor for Large Floral Image

Image
This is the perfect technique to do for messy watercolor with little effort. To create this card, I first white heat embossed the large floral image from Altenew's Courageous You Stamp Set using WOW Embossing Powder Opaque Bright White embossing powder onto watercolor paper. The embossing powder creates walls to hold the color in one area. I taped my card front down onto a hard surface. I just used the cardboard backing to my watercolor paper. I used Spellbinder's Best Ever Craft Tape to tape down my image. I repeated this process using a MISTI to create several card fronts to make multiple cards at once.  I put Nuvo Shimmer Powder in the flower petals and leaves. For this card, I used Cherry Bomb and Lilac Waterfall for the flower petals and Falling Leaves  for the leaves. Nuvo Shimmer Powder is highly pigmented so you don't need a lot. I just tapped the bottom of the bottle over various places of where I wanted that color. Remember not to squeeze the bottle as that ...

Gel Press Background Using Nuvo Shimmer Powder

Image
The flowers for these cards were made using Altenew's Build-A-Flower: Lavender. This set seems to be retired, but I think this card would also work for Build-A-Flower: Hyacinth or Build-A-Flower: Snapdragon . I used Enchanted Garden and Shades of Purple Ink Sets . I do not remember the exact greens I used for the stem but they are also Altenew Inks . The card front is made using Strathmore Watercolor Paper . To create the background, I used a hexagon shaped gel press and placed it in my MISTI . I then put Nuvo Shimmer Powder on the gel press and sprayed it with water using a Distress Sprayer from Tim Holtz . For the darker purple card, I used Falling Leaves and Violet Brocade . For the lighter purple card, I used Falling Leaves and Lilac Waterfall . I then stamped this onto a card front that I had cut using Tim Holtz Deckle Edge Trimmer down to 4x5.25". Using the purple color of the Nuvo Shimmer Powder, I put down some extra powder into a palette and mixed it with water....

Faux Watercolor Poppy Flowers

Image
This card was made using Nuvo Shimmer Powders to create a watercolor look. I first white heat embossed Simon Says Stamp's Poppies Background stamp onto hot press watercolor paper. I know many crafters prefer cold press, but I find I have better luck heat embossing onto hot press watercolor paper due to the smoothness of the paper. I then taped the paper down onto cardboard to decrease the amount of warping.  I then used Maroon Spark and Sunray Crosette Nuvo Shimmer Powder for the petals of the flowers. I put each color in the general area of where I wanted it while the paper was still dry. To get the powder onto the paper, I held the bottle over the paper and tapped the bottom of the bottle. Squeezing the bottle causes too much pigment to squeeze out. Only a small amount of pigment is necessary.  I then sprayed the entire sheet heavily with water, allowing the pigment to spread out. Once the paper had dried a little but was still damp, I could move any clumps of pig...

Butterfly Cards with Distress Oxide Backgrounds

Image
For these cards, I created various backgrounds using Distress Oxide Inks. Because I made these backgrounds a while ago, I am not sure the exact colors used. To create the background, I used a Tim Holtz Distress Brayer  to apply color down onto Neenah Classic Crest Solar While 110# cardstock. Once the ink was applied, I sprayed the background using a Tim Holtz Distress Sprayer that was filled with water and a little bit of Perfect Pearls.  Once the backgrounds were dry, I added a die cut out using Butterfly Coverplate from Paper Rose . To finish the card, I added a "I AM HERE FOR YOU" sentiment from Altenew's Sentiment & Quotes with a butterfly die cut. The embellishments are from Little Things from Lucy.  Here is another variation of the card made the exact same way but using the Geo Butterfly Coverplate from Paper Rose and a different sentiment from the same stamp set.  SUPPLY LIST Paper Rose Butterfly Coverplate [ SSS ] [ Scrapbook ] Paper Rose G...
