Cards By Ducky

  One of my sisters was born on Halloween and last year she requested a Halloween birthday card. I did not have time to complete it due to moving so of course I had to make one this year. I chose to make a simple card as I am still trying to get back into crafting after having a baby in July. These cards used Simon Says Stamp Witch Please Stamp Set as the focal point.  To start these cards, I placed the medium sized  Tim Holtz Moon Mask Stencil towards the center top of the 3.75" by 5" card front and taped it down by using Spellbinders Best Ever Craft Tape on the underside of the card. I then used  SSS Pawsitively Saturated Ink Grapefruit Ink and ink blended a halo around the circle using a Gina K Designs Ink Blending Brush .   I decided to use up some of my specialty paper by making cards using embossing folders. For the cards above, I used  Simon Says Stamp Tumbled Hexagon Embossing Folder along with various specialty paper from Tonic Studios. The colors are listed below: Blue:  Tonic Tidal Wave Mirror Cardstock Purple:  Tonic Soft Amethyst Mirror Satin Cardstock Pink:  Tonic Pink Chiffon Mirror Satin Cardstock Light Blue:  Tonic Marina Mist Mirror Iridescent Cardstock Green:  Tonic Water Sprite Mirror Iridescent Cardstock To finish the card, I cut out a frame from The Greetery's Nordic Frames Die Set and stamped a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp's Tiny Sentiment Stamp Set using Versafine Onyx Black Pigment Ink . This stamp set comes with a variety of sentiments for any occasion. To create these cards, I first stamped Simon Says Stamp's Cling Stamp Delicate Outline Flowers Stamp Set onto Black Watercolor Paper from Legion using Versamark Ink and Hero Art's Gold Embossing Powder . I taped down my card front to a hard surface. I like to just use the backing of the pad of watercolor paper. I painted this image using the Christmas Set from Iuile Watercolors . These metallic watercolors show up beautifully on dark colored paper. They have a metallic shine that is difficult to see in pictures. For these cards, I used Cobalt, Apple, and Lilac for the flowers and New Leaf for the leaves. Once the paper was dry, I cut down my card panel using A2 Precision Plates from Spellbinders . I also cut out a slightly larger panel from Sizzix Gold Surfacez Opulent Cardstock . Because most of the gold card stock would be covered up, I cut out CZ Design's Chunky Love You Wafer Die from the center and cut out the shadow die from vellum. I cut out additional pieces from...

  To create these cards, I first cut an A2 card front from Neenah Solar White Classic Crest 110# Cardstock and a sheet of vellum cut to 4.25" by 6" so that it was slightly taller than my A2 card front. I scored the vellum using a Scor-Pal at 5.5" and enforced the scoreline using a Teflon Bone Folder . I then stamped Simon Says Stamp's Hibiscus Blooms Stamp Set onto my white card front using Gina K Designs Obsidian Amalgam Ink using my MISTI .  Without moving the image in my MISTI, I stamped the sheet of vellum using Versamark Ink so that the stamp would align at the bottom of the vellum and heat embossed the image with Hero Arts Gold Embossing Powder . I also stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from Altenew's Bouquet of Love Stamp Set to the vellum. To heat emboss on vellum without warping, I used a heavy weight vellum and constantly moved my heat tool while embossing so that it wasn't on one area for more then about a second. This card was made using a stencil from Brutus Monroe but after making this card, I want to try this technique with a variety of stencils. I believe this stencil was from a card kit but I linked a similar stencil from Brutus Monroe below. The card was pretty simple to make. I taped my card front onto my work surface and taped the stencil down over it.  I used Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Inks in the colors: Lemonade , Carnation , and Marine . When I ink blended , I made sure the colors overlapped to get the colors in-between for a complete rainbow. I then stamped a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp called CZ Designs Well Wishes and a smaller sentiment from the same stamp set. To finish the card, I placed some embellishments from Little Things from Lucy around the sentiment.  I made a similar card but I masked off a portion so that there was a straight edge for the inked portion.   This card was made using Nuvo Shimmer Powders to create a watercolor look. I first white heat embossed Simon Says Stamp's Poppies Background stamp onto hot press watercolor paper. I know many crafters prefer cold press, but I find I have better luck heat embossing onto hot press watercolor paper due to the smoothness of the paper. I then taped the paper down onto cardboard to decrease the amount of warping.  I then used Maroon Spark and Sunray Crosette Nuvo Shimmer Powder for the petals of the flowers. I put each color in the general area of where I wanted it while the paper was still dry. To get the powder onto the paper, I held the bottle over the paper and tapped the bottom of the bottle. Squeezing the bottle causes too much pigment to squeeze out. Only a small amount of pigment is necessary.  I then sprayed the entire sheet heavily with water, allowing the pigment to spread out.
