Copic Marker Bokeh Background Technique
I was inspired to create these cards after watching a video by Kelly Taylor. To create the background, I used various Copic markers and tried to blend the different colors together where each color met. I tried to use colors that were more muted than the colors used for the focal point for each. I'm not very comfortable coloring but it is one of the easier techniques to practice while adjusting to life with a newborn.
For the first three cards, I used Picket Fence Studios' Poinsettia Star Stamp Set stamped with Honey Bee Stamp's Intense Black Ink which is a Copic friendly ink on a 4" by 5.25" card base made from Neenah Solar White 80# Cardstock. I then colored the background and poinsettia with the colors listed below. For the sentiment, I used Simon Says Stamp Christmas Blessing Stamp Set and coordinating die set which I used for each of the cards in this blog post. I stamped the sentiment using Tsukineko VersaFine Onyx Black Ink. I added an additional two layers of cardstock for the sentiment for more dimension. I finished the card using Trinity Stamp's Goldrush embellishments and glued the card front onto a card base made from Neenah Solar White 110# Cardstock.

For these two cards, I used Colorado Craft Company Big & Bold Holly & Berries Stamp Set. I then masked off the edges to create a half inch boarder around the image and colored in the background. However, because I am heavy-handed, the ink bled so the edges weren't as smooth as I'd like, so I lined the boarder using Spellbinders Decocolor Premium Gold Marker. I colored the image using the Copic markers listed below.
For the card on the right, I tried to create more of a bokeh effect by using Simon Says Stamp Mix and Match Circle Stencil and coloring in the circles using a Copic Colorless Blender but decided that I liked the look better without the circles so I did not do this to the remainder of the cards. Like the previous cards, I added a sentiment from SSS Christmas Blessings and added Trinity Stamps Gold Rush embellishments. For the card on the left, I used Papertrey Ink's Hibiscus Burst Cardstock for my card base and for the card on the right, I used Papertrey Ink's Pure Poppy Cardstock.

For this card, I used Colorado Craft Company Big & Bold Pine Branch & Pinecone Stamp Set. Because the pine leaves are just lines in the illustration, for the background, I made sure I used my lightest green (G14) where the leaves were so that I could go in afterwards with a darker green (G28) and followed the lines to color them. I used Gina K Designs Warm Cocoa Cardstock for my card base. The Copic colors used are listed below.

For my final card, I used Colorado Craft Company Big & Bold Oak Leaves & Acorn. The three Big & Bold Stamp sets in this post can be purchased as part of the October Big & Bold Bundle for 10% off. I again created a half inch boarder and lined the boarder using a gold marker. I finished the card by placing the card front on a card base made from Gina K Designs Warm Cocoa Cardstock. The Copic colors used are listed below.
