Bewitching Halloween Cards

 


One of my sisters was born on Halloween and last year she requested a Halloween birthday card. I did not have time to complete it due to moving so of course I had to make one this year. I chose to make a simple card as I am still trying to get back into crafting after having a baby in July. These cards used Simon Says Stamp Witch Please Stamp Set as the focal point. 


To start these cards, I placed the medium sized Tim Holtz Moon Mask Stencil towards the center top of the 3.75" by 5" card front and taped it down by using Spellbinders Best Ever Craft Tape on the underside of the card. I then used SSS Pawsitively Saturated Ink Grapefruit Ink and ink blended a halo around the circle using a Gina K Designs Ink Blending Brush. I then ink blended SSS Pawsitively Saturated Ink Twilight Ink starting from the edges and moving toward the moon, making sure to not overlap with the Grapefruit ink as these are complimentary colors and would create mud if overlapped too much. I completed the background by darkened the edges using SSS Pawsitively Saturated Ink Galaxy Ink.



Once the background was finished, I put the other moon stencil over the circle and taped around the edges so I wouldn't get grey ink on my background. I lightly inked over the stencil with  SSS Pawsitively Saturated Ink Earl Ink but tried to ink it so it wasn't so smooth for more interest. 


Using my MISTI, I stamped the witch images from Simon Says Stamp Witch Please on each card front. For the card on the left, I used a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp XL Birthday Greetings Stamp Set while the card on the right has a sentiment from Witch Please. The bats are from Simon Says Stamp Spook Up Some Halloween Fun Stamp Set. All images were stamped using Tsukineko VersaFine Onyx Black Ink. 


For the inside of the card, I stamped sentiments from Witch Please. I placed the card fronts on an A2 side card base made from Taylored Expressions Sweet Potato Pie cardstock.

Iron-Off Embossed Resist on Dark Cardstock with Distress Oxide Sprays

  I'm starting to build up my Christmas card collection for this year and decided I wanted to use an iron-off emboss resist technique to create some quick card sets. To create these cards, I first stamped Colorado Craft Company's Big & Bold Warm Wishes Snowflake Clear Stamp with Veramark Ink onto various dark colored cardstock from Taylored Expressions.  I then used WOW Embossing Powder Clear Gloss which created a darker shiny image of the snowflake as shown above. I then put the card in a cardboard box so that I could use Distress Oxide Spray to add color to the cards. I placed some paper towels in the box to absorb the excess and placed the card down so that the top of the card was closest to me. Embossed Vellum Cardfront with Copic Coloring

  To create these cards, I first cut an A2 card front from Neenah Solar White Classic Crest 110# Cardstock and a sheet of vellum cut to 4.25" by 6" so that it was slightly taller than my A2 card front. I scored the vellum using a Scor-Pal at 5.5" and enforced the scoreline using a Teflon Bone Folder . I then stamped Simon Says Stamp's Hibiscus Blooms Stamp Set onto my white card front using Gina K Designs Obsidian Amalgam Ink using my MISTI .  Without moving the image in my MISTI, I stamped the sheet of vellum using Versamark Ink so that the stamp would align at the bottom of the vellum and heat embossed the image with Hero Arts Gold Embossing Powder . I also stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from Altenew's Bouquet of Love Stamp Set to the vellum. To heat emboss on vellum without warping, I used a heavy weight vellum and constantly moved my heat tool while embossing so that it wasn't on one area for more then about a second. Northern Lights Background Holiday Card Sets

I created these holiday card sets using the  Hero Arts My Monthly Hero Classic August 2023 Card Kit . Hero Arts card kits are released the first Saturday of every month and they have several  subscription options or can be purchased individually. However, once a kit is sold out, they are no longer available. This card kit was nature themed and comes with dies to create trees lines, mountains, and canyons as well as embossing powders and cardstock, but I decided to use some of the dies for holiday cards instead.  For each card, I first stamped the northern lights using a stamp from  Hero Arts Northern Lights Polar Bears Stamp Set onto Neenah Solar White 110# Cardstock with VersaMark Ink and embossed the image with  WOW Opaque Bright White Superfine Embossing Powder .
