Lake Reflections and Sunset Backgrounds
I created these cards using The Greetery's Reflection Stamp Set. This set includes 6 layers to create a reflection scene with trees and a lake. The stamp set includes a guide for how to align the stamps. I decided to create a card set for different times of the day. There is also a coordinating die for this set but I did not use it for these cards. The die only cuts out the trees and has an open edge, which would be great for a tri-fold card which I plan on doing for a future card. The cardstock used for these cards is Taylored Expressions Sugar Cube Cardstock.
This card basically represents what the layering guide shows for a quick and simple card. I used Gina K Premium Dye Inks to stamp this image. The colors used are listed below. The first stamp is the lake, which lines up with the bottom corner of the card. The rest of the card builds off of this first stamp. I finished the card by stamping a sentiment from the same stamp set with VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink and then glued the card front onto an A2 card base using my ATG Tape Glue Gun.
Water: Sea Glass Ink
Reflection: Moonlit Fog Ink
Grass & Trees: Fresh Asparagus Ink
Sand: Sandy Beach Ink
Tree Stump: Dark Chocolate Ink
To create this part of the card, I used Gina K Designs Blending Brushes to add each color to the reflection portion of the ink pad by lightly dabbing the ink onto the stamp in the areas where I wanted that color. I did each color individually and stamped it onto the cardstock before moving on to the next color. For the best results, I ensured the colors overlapped to give a more blended look. Once the reflection portion was complete, I ink blended the sky using the same colors and blending brushes. To ink blend, I went lightest to darkest and then in the reverse order to make the colors overlap. The ink will smooth out and lighten as it dries. The colors are listed below.
To finish the cards, I stamped the reflection using Gina K Designs Moonlit Fog Ink and the rest of the layers using VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink. The sentiment for the card on the left uses a stamp from Papertrey Ink's Say It Essentials Stamp Set. This stamp set comes with sentiments for every occasion. For the card on the right, I used The Greetery's Stamp Suit: Birthday Stamp Set. This set comes with various birthday stamps with lots of font choices. They also have similar stamp sets for Thank You, Thinking of You, Love, and Christmas. I like these stamp sets as I'm able to find the sentiment I want with a font that matches the theme of the card.
To create this card, I stamped the lake using Gina K Designs In the Navy Premium Dye Ink and then used Hero Arts Unicorn White Pigment Ink to create a reflection of the moon in the lake. I used a sponge dauber to apply the white pigment ink in the area of the stamp where I thought the reflection should be. I then stamped the rest of the layers using VeraFine Clair Nocturne Ink.
To make the moon, I used the smallest moon from Tim Holtz Moon Mask Stencils to mask off the area where I wanted the moon and ink blended the sky. I used Gina K Designs In the Navy and Black Onyx Premium Dye Inks. To make the moon look like it was glowing, I used a lighter hand towards the moon and made it darker further away from the moon. I then removed the mask and used the second stencil to ink the inside of the moon. For the moon on the right, I used Gina K Designs Moonlit Fog and for the left, I used Gina K Designs Soft Stone so I could see which I liked more but I ended up liking them both.
To finish this card, I heat embossed a sentiment from Papertrey Ink's Say It Essential Stamp Set using VersaMark Embossing Ink and Brutus Monroe's Alabaster Ultra Fine Embossing Powder. Because I had ink blended on this panel, I made sure the ink was dry by pouring embossing powder on it prior to stamping to see if any of it stuck. If it doesn't stick, then it is dry enough to emboss. If it did stick, I would have heat set it with a heat tool prior to embossing. Once the embossing was complete, I glued the card front onto an A2 card panel.
