Christmas Time Shaped Cards


To create these shaped cards, I used The Greetery's Hourglass Frame Die and Hourglass Frame Insert Die. This die set is a cute way to create scenes inside an hourglass. The Greetery has a collection of stamps and dies that coordinate with this die set but any scene making stamps or dies will work, especially ones that are made for snow globes. I used the die elements from The Greetery for some of these cards, but there are also coordinating stamps of the same elements. These can easily be made into shaker cards and while I did not make shaker cards this time, I plan to at a later date.
 

I first cut out the large hourglass shape from Hammermill White 100# Cardstock and used the following Distress Oxide Inks to ink blend the background of my cards. I used Ranger's Mini Blending Tool as I have one foam refill for each color of Distress Oxide Ink.

First: Blueprint Sketch, Mermaid Lagoon, Tumbled Glass
Second: Salty Ocean, Dusty Concord, Kitch Flamingo
Third: Tumbled Glass, Shaded Lilac, Spun Sugar
Fourth: Dusty Concord, Shaded Lilac, Tumbled Glass

I let the backgrounds dry while I made the elements for each card which will be discussed below.


To create the shaped card base, I used an A2 card base made from Hammermill White 100# Cardstock cut longways so it creates a tent. I then used the large hourglass die to cut a shaped card base by placing the die so that the top is slightly off the top of the card, leaving a crease. I used this cardstock as it is thinner so I knew it would cut through both layers easily. 


For this card I kept it simple and used a silhouette stamp. I used the nativity stamp from Creative Expressions Nativity Silhouette and sentiment from Sweet & Sassy We Three Kings Stamp Set stamped in VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink. To create the boarder on the hourglass, I used both the larger and smaller hourglass die. I glued the card front onto the card base and cut the frame from Sizzix Silver Surfacez Opulent Cardstock which I glued down as well to complete the card. 


For this card, I used the dies from The Greetery Christmas Time in the City Die and colored the elements with Copic Markers listed below. I used Spellbinders Platinum 6 for all of my die cutting.

I then glued the elements onto the card front using Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue and assembled it the same way as before. The sentiment for this card is from The Greetery Sentiment Suite: Christmas Stamp Set which has a variety of holiday greetings in many styles to match any holiday card.


The card above and below both use elements from The Greetery Christmas Time in the Country Die. For the card above, I wanted a more silhouette feel. The only additional color added is for the windows which I made by coloring a sheet of white paper with Y13 and gluing it behind the die cut. I finished the card by stamping a sentiment from Sweet & Sassy's O' Holy Night Stamp Set.

For the card below, I used the rest of the elements and colored them with Copic Markers listed below and another sentiment from The Greetery Sentiment Suite: Christmas Stamp Set.

Because of how I cut the card base, it easily stands up so it can be displayed and there's room for a personal message on the inside.

Iron-Off Embossed Resist on Dark Cardstock with Distress Oxide Sprays

  I'm starting to build up my Christmas card collection for this year and decided I wanted to use an iron-off emboss resist technique to create some quick card sets. To create these cards, I first stamped Colorado Craft Company's Big & Bold Warm Wishes Snowflake Clear Stamp with Veramark Ink onto various dark colored cardstock from Taylored Expressions.  I then used WOW Embossing Powder Clear Gloss which created a darker shiny image of the snowflake as shown above. I then put the card in a cardboard box so that I could use Distress Oxide Spray to add color to the cards. I placed some paper towels in the box to absorb the excess and placed the card down so that the top of the card was closest to me. Embossed Vellum Cardfront with Copic Coloring

  To create these cards, I first cut an A2 card front from Neenah Solar White Classic Crest 110# Cardstock and a sheet of vellum cut to 4.25" by 6" so that it was slightly taller than my A2 card front. I scored the vellum using a Scor-Pal at 5.5" and enforced the scoreline using a Teflon Bone Folder . I then stamped Simon Says Stamp's Hibiscus Blooms Stamp Set onto my white card front using Gina K Designs Obsidian Amalgam Ink using my MISTI .  Without moving the image in my MISTI, I stamped the sheet of vellum using Versamark Ink so that the stamp would align at the bottom of the vellum and heat embossed the image with Hero Arts Gold Embossing Powder . I also stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from Altenew's Bouquet of Love Stamp Set to the vellum. Northern Lights Background Holiday Card Sets

I created these holiday card sets using the  Hero Arts My Monthly Hero Classic August 2023 Card Kit . Hero Arts card kits are released the first Saturday of every month and they have several  subscription options or can be purchased individually. However, once a kit is sold out, they are no longer available. This card kit was nature themed and comes with dies to create trees lines, mountains, and canyons as well as embossing powders and cardstock, but I decided to use some of the dies for holiday cards instead.  For each card, I first stamped the northern lights using a stamp from  Hero Arts Northern Lights Polar Bears Stamp Set onto Neenah Solar White 110# Cardstock with VersaMark Ink and embossed the image with  WOW Opaque Bright White Superfine Embossing Powder .
