Watercolor Large Floral Images Quickly

These cards were made using Nuvo Shimmer Powders as watercolor. This technique allows for a lot of color to be put down quickly. The card on the left uses Cherry Bomb, Lilac Waterfall, and Falling Leaves; the middle card uses Violet Brocade, Blue Blitz, and Jade Fountain; the final card uses Lilac Waterfall, Violet Brocade, and Falling Leaves.

I first stamped Colorado Craft Company's Big & Bold Just Because Lilacs Stamp onto watercolor paper using Altenew's Obsidian Black Pigment Ink. I then clear heat embossed the image using WOW Embossing Powder Clear Gloss and taped the panels down onto cardboard with masking tape.

I put each color of the Nuvo Shimmer Powder down in the general area of where I wanted that color. To use this powder, I lightly tapped the bottom of bottle over the paper. Squeezing the bottle results in a large amount of pigment to come out. Only small amounts are needed for this technique.

I then lightly misted it with water using a Tim Holtz Distress Sprayer. Once there was a fine mist down, I sprayed it more heavily until it looked like the image shown above.

I cleaned up the images a bit by spreading out the color using a wet paint brush on the outside of the image and spread the color around inside the image, breaking up the powder that remained after spraying it. I created additional watercolor by squeezing powder into a palette and adding water. I used this watercolor to fill in the areas where there was little or no color so it looked like the image shown below. I then allowed the paintings to dry. If there was any areas were there was too much pigment, I would remove it with clean water and a paper towel.

Once dry, I lightly misted the paper with water and used a paper towel to remove excess shimmer that remained on top of the embossing. I allowed the paper to dry completely before removing it from the cardboard. I sprayed each image with a fixative so that the shimmer would not rub off.

I cut each panel down using an A2 Precision Die from Spellbinders and attached it to an A2 card base made from Boysenberry Cardstock from My Favorite Things. I used a sentiment from the same stamp set that the focal image came from and cut it out using the coordinating die. I cut out two additional die cuts to build dimension. To complete the card, I added embellishments called Unicorn Pearls from Pink & Main.

With my remaining cards, I stamped a sentiment from Colorado Craft Company's Thinking of You Magnolia Stamp Set and cut it out with the coordinating die set
