Nuvo Shimmer Powder as Watercolor for Large Floral Image

This is the perfect technique to do for messy watercolor with little effort. To create this card, I first white heat embossed the large floral image from Altenew's Courageous You Stamp Set using WOW Embossing Powder Opaque Bright White embossing powder onto watercolor paper. The embossing powder creates walls to hold the color in one area. I taped my card front down onto a hard surface. I just used the cardboard backing to my watercolor paper. I used Spellbinder's Best Ever Craft Tape to tape down my image. I repeated this process using a MISTI to create several card fronts to make multiple cards at once.

I put Nuvo Shimmer Powder in the flower petals and leaves. For this card, I used Cherry Bomb and Lilac Waterfall for the flower petals and Falling Leaves for the leaves. Nuvo Shimmer Powder is highly pigmented so you don't need a lot. I just tapped the bottom of the bottle over various places of where I wanted that color. Remember not to squeeze the bottle as that will cause a large amount of powder to come out. I then sprayed the image with water using a Tim Holtz Distress Sprayer. I used a good amount of water. This broke up most of the pigment and I broke up the remaining pigment with a paintbrush to spread it out.

I let the card front dry for a while and came back to it when it was still slightly damp. Using a wet brush, I tried to remove pigment from the background and spread it around to give the background a more washed look. I squeezed the same colors into a palette and mixed it with water to create my own watercolor. Using a paintbrush, I filled in the rest of the leaves and petals with the watercolor to ensure the image was full.

This card was made using the exact same process as above but instead I used Maroon Spark and Sunray Crosette Nuvo Shimmer Powder for the flower petals and Falling Leaves for the leaves. Once the backgrounds were dry, I sprayed them with a fixative so that the pigment would not rub off. I then stamped a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp's Handlettered Encouragement Stamp Set with Altenew's Obsidian Pigment Ink and heat embossed it with Raven Ultra Fine Embossing Powder from Brutus Monroe. I cut down the card fronts using an A2 Precision Die from Spellbinders and and glued it down using Bearly Art Precision Glue to a card base I made from matching cardstock from my stash to complete the card.

Another color combination you could try is Solar Flare and Sunray Crosette for the flower petals Jade Fountain for the leaves.
