Simple Card Set and Tips for Mass Producing
Whenever I make cards, I like to make as many as possible while I have my supplies out. I enjoy the repetition and I find it rewarding when I end up with a bunch of cards. Card sets make great gifts for holidays and birthdays. In this post, I'll discuss various mass producing tips. The most useful tool for mass producing is a stamping tool which allows you to stamp in the same spot every time for as many times as you desire. The stamping tool I use is My Sweet Petunia's MISTI.
I like to create the individual pieces first and put everything together at the end. For this card, I first cut out several pieces of Neenah Solar White 110# Cardstock with a frame from The Greenery's Nordic Frames Die. I cut out more images than I need because I know there will be some mistakes. I keep as many card fronts as I can, even with small mistakes, because they are often easy to get rid of or cover up.
I next worked on the floral image for the card front. I used Gina K Designs Spring Greetings Stamp Set to stamp the flowers. I first used the tulip bulb stamp and stamped the whole image in a light color. I then inked up the stamp with a darker color and wiped half the ink away, wiping upwards. This ink has a smoothing agent in it so the image will become smoother as it dries. When I line up images, I like to keep the cardstock in the same corner of the MISTI for each image that I stamp, so when I moved onto the stem, I made sure the paper was in the bottom right corner as I had it with the tulip bulbs. This ensures that the cardstock will be in the exact same place for the next image when stamping multiple card fronts. Sometimes, due to slight differences in size, the image may not line up perfectly had I placed the cardstock in a different corner.
Because I stamped the tulip bulbs first, I couldn't line up the stems straight without it overlapping the flowers. I should have stamped the stems first but because I didn't want to start over, I masked off the portion of the stamp that would overlap the tulip bulb with a piece of Spellbinders Best Ever Craft Tape because this was the simplest way to ensure no green ink would stamp over the image. For a more perfect mask, you could use masking paper and fussy cut the image but this is much more time consuming.
I used Gina K Designs Premium Dye Ink for the tulips, VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink for the sentiment, and either cardstock from Gina K Designs or My Favorite Things for the card base. The colors used are listed below.
I used Jelly Bean Green Ink for the stems.
The sentiments for all of these cards are from Papertrey Ink's Say It Essentials Stamp Set. This set has a variety of sentiments for any occasion and are tiny so they fit perfectly on this card.
The Greetery's Nordic Frame Die cuts out tiny diamonds along the frame but to save time, I opted to keep these small pieces of paper in the die cut rather than use a pointy tool to poke out each individual piece for most cards. If any piece happened to pop out while die cutting, I glued white paper to the back prior to gluing the piece down to a card front. Above is what the card looks like with the diamond pieces popped out of the frame.
Once all my card fronts were complete, I then cut each piece of cardstock in half to create an A2 card base. I used my Scor-Pal and Teflon Bone Folder to score the paper and glued the card front on to the card base using Barely Arts Precision Craft Glue. If there was any ink on the card front where there wasn't supposed to be, I attempted to remove it with a Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. This removes a layer of cardstock and works very well for small amounts of ink. I will move the eraser in different directions to attempt to remove the ink. If this is unsuccessful, I will try to either cover it up with an embellishment or sentiment when possible.
