Watercolor Flowers and Distress Oxide Ink Background
I have been trying to find a creative way to use Hero Arts Antique Hero Map Bold Prints Stamp and I also wanted to practice my watercoloring, so I created these cards. These cards feature Altenew Watercolors and a Distress Oxide Ink background.
To ensure the background stamp would stamp where I wanted it to on the background, I placed Hero Arts Antique Hero Arts Bold Print Stamp into my MISTI and stamped the image onto a piece of MISTI Grid Paper but any scrap paper would work. I could then place the card into the MISTI with removable adhesive to where I wanted the stamp image to stamp. I chose to stamp the image Vintage Photo Archival Ink as this is a waterproof ink.
To create the background, I smooshed Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink onto my Tim Holtz Travel Media Mat and sprayed it with water. I then put the card front face down into the ink and moved it around. I repeated this with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink and continued to do so until the background was covered. I heat set the ink occasionally with the Ranger Heat It Craft Tool to build up layers. I let the image dry completely and lightly misted it with a my Tim Holtz Distress Sprayer then picked up the water with a paper towel to add more interest. I then used an Ink Blending Tool from Scrapbook.com with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink to darken up the edges and removed the mask.
For all the watercoloring, I used Altenew's Watercolor 36 Pan Set. For the pink flowers, I used Pink Diamond and Puffy Heart watercolor. I put a lot of color towards the flower centers or bottom of the flower depending on the image and cleaned my paint brush. Using a clean wet brush, I then moved the color from the center outwards so the flowers would be lighter towards the edges. I let all the paint dry and then repeated this for any petals that were not dark enough. I used Bamboo for the leaves and Espresso for the branch to finish the watercoloring.
I created the blue flowers the same way but with Mountain Mist and Lagoon watercolor. Because there was small parts that the mask covered up in the background, I smooshed some Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink onto my craft mat and used it as a watercolor to fill in those parts. To finish the cards, I cut out a sentiment from Papertrey Ink's True Black Cardstock with a sentiment from Altenew's Essential Sentiment Strips 3D Die Set. I put white cardstock behind the image so it wouldn't get lost in the background. I glued the card front onto an A2 card base made from Neenah Desert Storm 100# Cardstock.
